12/06/2018Manchester Day – XS Presenters’ Guide to Manchester
15/06/2018
XS Manchester, broadcasting from and just for Greater Manchester.
XS Manchester has just launched its brand new breakfast show. Spearheaded by long-standing breakfast host Steve Berry and Sophie Sveinsson, who moves from the mid-morning slot to join Steve, the duo are on air from 6am waking Manchester up with top music and competitions with bigger prizes than ever before.
From August, the XS Manchester Football Social will return broadcasting weekdays from 6-7pm, featuring City and United legends Gary Owen and Micky Thomas, together with ex-BBC Radio Manchester commentator Ian Cheeseman and The Full Time Devils. The nightly talk show features a fan phone in, ex-players as studio guests, pre-and post-match talk, and of course debates between the pundits. The show is recorded and available as a podcast the following day for listeners who missed the entertainment.
Manchester music icon and DJ Clint Boon remains in the 3-6pm drivetime slot, playing a range of rock and indie classics as well as continuing the popular
#ThatsGoodInnit show, with top prizes on offer for callers. Meanwhile, Sony-nominated DJ Hywel Evans moves from the XS Manchester weekend breakfast slot to take over Sophie’s lunchtime show.
The changes come at a time when the number of stations broadcasting from Manchester, for the people of Manchester, are declining.
“We broadcast from Manchester, for Manchester, and our audience ranges from 25 year olds to 50 year olds, from football fans to rock and indie fans – and everyone in between. We’ve shuffled our line-up around to bring in even more presenters who know our city and understand the unrivalled music heritage that Mancunians hold dear, while uniting very well-respected renowned football pundits who can talk credibly about football in our region, whether that’s City and United or Stockport Town and Bury.”
Programme Controller, Matt White
DJ Clint Boon, who has been a key part of Manchester’s music scene for decades points out that the station is dedicated to celebrating both the old and the new, from The Stone Roses to The Slow Readers Club. The show has its own dedicated YouTube and Twitter channels which champion up-and-coming bands and is quickly growing to be a well-known authority on the Manchester music scene.
“It really is an exciting time to be living and working in Manchester, so to have a radio station dedicated to promoting everything that’s great about the city, from the two top football teams in the country to the best bands and artists in the world, is what Mancunians want and need. XS Manchester is simply embracing a community spirit that’s never been stronger.”
DJ, Clint Boon
