For the first time ever in musical history, US R&B icons Joe, Dru Hill and 112 will share the stage in the UK to perform an exclusive three city concert tour, with Manchester successfully making the list.
The rare tour of the iconic R&B stars will stop in Manchester for its third and final show at Manchester Academy on 29 September.
The Grammy nominated songwriter, Joe, is among the favourites for UK R&B fans. He entered the scene in the early 90’s in the R&B and New Jack Swing era, releasing up-tempo and soul hits on his debut album ‘Everything’ in 1993, followed by ‘All That I Am in 1997’. Joe’s platinum selling international album, ‘My Name is Joe’ earned him the title of one of the Kings of R&B following its release in 2000. He has collaborated with a number of renowned artists like Mariah Carey, Nas and Kelly Rowland. He also released a joint single with 50 Cent for the theme track of the popular US drama ‘Power’. He’s sold over 15 million records and 13 studio albums, spanning over his 25 years of relevance in the music industry.
The names Sisqo, Nokio, Tao, Smoke E. Digglera and Digital Black making up the multi- platinum selling group Dru Hill will also be joining the tour. Known for their soul, hip hop and gospel enthused sound, Dru Hill took the charts by storm with five top 10 singles including ‘Tell Me’, ‘Never Make A Promise’ and ‘5 Steps’ off their debut self-titled album. The group’s follow up album ‘Enter the Dru’ featured their most successful international song to date with ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, which also appeared on the soundtrack to the 1998 box office hit film, ‘Rush Hour’.
Lead vocalist, Sisqo, pursued a more commercial R&B solo career, with the triple threat artist releasing number one hit records ‘Incomplete’ and the quintuple platinum selling single ‘Thong Song’. The group continued to go from strength to strength with a total of four chart topping albums, nine top 10 singles including two hit features with Foxy Brown and the ‘Wild Wild West’ with Will Smith plus their upcoming fifth studio album ‘The 2ndComing’.
The R&B quartet 112 will also be heading on the three city tour, replacing Brandy who was originally supposed to appear. Quinnes Parker, Daron Jones, Slim and Michael Marcel Keith make up the R&B group that will complete the lineup for the tour. The group has seen success with a gold certified album, ‘Room 112’ and the Grammy nominated ‘Part III’ which was released in 2001. They’ve also toured with musical icons Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston and between the group, they’ve collectively released more than 15 albums.
Manchester Academy will be celebrating over 25 years of R&B music with these three established artists with tickets on sale for £38.50.
