After its first event last year, the BBC Summer Social returns this weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August for an even bigger and better line-up which encompasses the BBC’s best programmes for all the family.
This weekend, the BBC Summer Social takes over Croxteth Country Park in Liverpool, to showcase a unique lineup of the very best of the BBC, featuring fabulous music stars, CBBC and CBeebies talent and the most popular shows the organisation has to offer.
Saturday’s main stage will welcome the likes of Busted and Pixie Lott, alongside an exciting lineup including John Newman, Nina Nesbitt and Freya Ridings. Other confirmed acts for Saturday include British pop trio New Hope Club and female pop group Four of Diamonds, who found their fame on Series 13 of X Factor. As well as this, a Horrible Histories movie screening and cast Q&A will excite those looking to learn. Also joining the line-up, and needing no introduction, are teen music sensations Max & Harvey, guaranteed to be a festival highlight!
The Next Step will be dancing their way through the Saturday of the BBC Summer Social, bringing energetic dances and original choreography from the talented cast whilst Latin Dancing Star AJ Pritchard will take centre stage, best known for his role on BBC One dance series Strictly Come Dancing. Other acts for the first day of the festival will include local dance troupe Merseygirls, Freestyle Dance Champion Junior Frood; dancer and inaugural winner of the BBC’s latest talent series The Greatest Dancer, Ellie Ferguson; and singer, dancer and actor Harrison Vaughan, who was the winner of CBBC’s hit show “Taking the Next Step”.
Sunday 4 August is mainly aimed towards a younger audience, with CBeebies superstar Mr Tumble take to the stage to entertain even the tiniest of tots. Other exciting CBeebies additions include Andy and the Odd Socks, Dr Ranj, mayhem creators Cook and Line from Swashbuckle, Yolanda, Hey Duggee, and many more.
Sunday’s bill will also include a whole day of fantastic dancing, specially recorded music for the event and exciting storytelling from Northern Ballet, in collaboration with the CBeebies Ballet: Puss in Boots. Strictly’s favourite Janette Manrara will be teaming up with Dr Ranj for a must-see performance and CBeebies superstar Bing will be appearing on site as well.
Across the BBC Summer Social weekend, a range of CBBC and CBeebies presenters will take to the main stage to host the never-ending fun for all the family. Presenters include Sam Nixon, Yasmin Evans Jonny Nelson, Hacker T Dog, Lauren Layfield, Karim Zeroual, Rhys Stephenson, Lyndsey Russell, Naomi Wilkinson, Rebecca Keatley, Ferne and Rory, Cat Sandion, Katy Ashworth, Ben Cajee, Maddie Moate and Dodge.
There will be a massive variety of activities to take part in all over Croxteth Country Park this weekend. Festival goers can find immersive activity zones, interactive and inspiring workshops and BBC Summer Social will host an amazing range of indoor and outdoor activities with something for everyone. The activities include glitter crafts, free funfair rides, with an array of festival foods to try and licensed bars. There will even be live appearances from some of the most popular children’s authors at the Bedtime Stories tent.
Tickets £23.50 plus booking fees but tickets are free for children under two. Each ticket, which can be purchased through Ticketmaster, includes entry to the festival and the free funfair and other attractions like the inflatable obstacle course.
